Samuels Recycling Company was established in 1896 in Portage, WI and was acquired by Alter Trading Corporation in December of 2006. The Janesville, Wisconsin location was purchased by Samuels Recycling Company in 1985. Samuels/Janesville continues its 22nd year history of serving the recycling needs of the community and surrounding areas. Samuels/Janesville works with the community for many events including school can drives, yard tours for children’s groups, sponsoring the local 4th of July fireworks and our annual Earth Day event.

Every year Samuels/Janesville holds an Earth Day event. Through vendor support we have drawings, food, and many customer oriented events. We also offer a premium price for aluminum cans. This year we took our Earth Day event a step further by having displays and demonstrations for our customers. Raw product was displayed and shown how it comes full circle from the recycling facilities back to customer for consumption. Our customers look forward to this annual event that brings in an average of 500 customers for the day.

Samuels/Janesville houses a 1000 ton mobile shear, which was the largest in the United States at the time of purchase. This shear is also capable of producing factory bundles for steel mill consumption

The Samuels’ program of continuing education and cross-training for employees ensures quality customer service. With 35 employees, Samuels/Janesville is a full-service facility for both ferrous and non-ferrous commodities that services retail, dealer, commercial and industrial business. Capabilities include:

• Lugger container, roll-off containers, gondola and van trailers
• Both grapple and magnet cranes for loading and unloading
• Multiple scales for weighing and servicing customers
• Indoor drive thru recycling for retail customers
• Training and support for customer needs
• Onsite material analysis provided for customer needs
