Reloadable Alter Visa Prepaid Card FAQ's

  1. Is Alter's Card a credit card? No. The Card is a prepaid debit card.

  2. Does my credit rating determine whether or not I can qualify for a Card? Can I be turned down for a Card? No. Since the Alter Card is a prepaid debit card, YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO COMPLETE A CREDIT APPLICATION. Everyone who requests a reloadable Card can receive one.

  3. Will I receive a PIN number? Yes. A PIN number will be mailed to you separately from your Card. You should expect to receive your Card within 7 - 10 days of signing up for it. The PIN will follow in the mail approximately 2 - 3 days after you receive your Card in the mail. For security purposes, it is recommended that you memorize your PIN. Do not keep your PIN with your Card.

  4. Can I change the PIN that is assigned to my Card? No.

  5. What if I lose my Card and someone takes my money — what do I do? Call Program Headquarters (not Alter Metal Recycling) immediately at 877-426-7768 to report your Card as lost or stolen. A replacement Card will be sent to you. You will be required to review transactions on the Card at www.rewardsdetail.com. In the event there are transactions that you did not make, Program Headquarters will assist you in completing and submitting the appropriate paperwork that will be required. Never keep your PIN information with your Card. If your Card is lost and the PIN is with the Card and a withdrawal is made, it will not be reimbursed.

  6. Is there a fee to replace my Card if it's lost or stolen? Yes, there is a $10 replacement fee.

  7. Are there any transaction fees associated with the Alter cash card program? Certain fees are charged by Alter's card-issuing bank in connection with Alter's Card program. Alter Metal Recycling is not earning any fees from you in connection with the Card program or from any ATM installed on Alter's premises. A summary of fees you might incur are as follows:
    1. A $1.75 bank fee is charged if you withdraw funds from any ATM using your Card. No additional fees over this $1.75 fee apply when you withdraw funds from an ATM located at your local Alter Metal Recycling facility. An additional fee may be charged if you perform an ATM withdrawal with your Card at an ATM that is not located on Alter's premises. (ATM fees vary at the discretion of whoever owns the ATM).
    2. A $0.75 bank fee (not Alter's fee) will be deducted from your Card balance for each Card balance inquiry you perform at any ATM. Alter recommends that you check your Card balance for free anytime via www.rewardsdetail.com or by calling 877-426-7768. This website and phone number appear on the back of your Card.
    3. A $0.50 bank fee applies if you request cash-back in conjunction with a merchant purchase.
    4. A $2 monthly maintenance fee will be deducted from your Card balance if you have not spent all of the funds on your Card before the end of the second month after you had funds loaded onto your Card.

  8. What's the difference between using the ATM at the Alter yard and any other bank ATM? As mentioned above, a $1.75 bank fee applies each time you withdraw funds from any ATM. No additional fees apply for withdrawals of funds from your Card using an ATM located at your local Alter Metal Recycling facility. An additional fee is usually charged by ATM owners (but not by Alter). Such additional fees are usually required to be posted on a sticker affixed to each ATM. So beware of additional fees if you perform an ATM withdrawal at an ATM that is not located on Alter's premises!

  9. How do I activate my reloadable Card? Activation instructions can be found on the sticker located on the face of your new Card. Note, you will not be able to activate the Card until you receive your PIN. Your Card must then be swiped at the Alter Metal Recycling facility the first time only that you want to be paid on the Card for the scrap metal you sell to Alter.

  10. How can I use the funds on my Card without incurring fees? Because the Card is accepted anywhere Visa® debit cards are accepted, you can use it just like cash - therefore, there really is no need to convert it into cash. No fees apply when you make purchases with your Card. (However, see question related to transaction fees above regarding a fee that applies if you request cash-back in conjunction with a merchant purchase).

  11. Do I need to present my reloadable Card each time I transact at Alter? You must present your activated reloadable Card for your FIRST transaction only. Thereafter, your Card number will be associated with your account in Alter's computer system and funds for all future transactions can be instantly deposited onto your Card electronically. You will not be required to present your Card for future transactions.

  12. Can I use this Card for online purchases? Yes.

  13. We drop scrap off at several Alter yards, will all yards load onto my reloadable Card? After our new Card program has been rolled-out to all Alter facilities, which is occurring over a period of several months, yes, all Alter yards will be able to load funds onto your reloadable Card as long as your vendor account has been set-up to pay you this way. If that's what you want, just let us know and we'll take care of it!

  14. My company has many drivers that drop scrap off at various Alter yards; can I obtain separate Cards for each driver? Yes. You may direct each of your drivers to request a single load Card each time they drop off scrap at any Alter Metal Recycling facility; or you could obtain a reloadable Card and instruct your drivers to request to be paid onto your company's reloadable Card (which a single person could maintain possession-of); or you could register online to receive multiple reloadable Cards for your drivers. Using a reloadable Card(s) would eliminate the need for your drivers to request a check or single load Card each time they transact with Alter Metal Recycling.

  15. If I have Alter pay my drivers on these Cards, how do I monitor activity on my driver's Cards? Card balances and transactions can be viewed online at www.rewardsdetail.com.

  16. How is this Card better than cash or a check? Unlike delays in funds availability, which could be encountered with checks, funds loaded onto a reloadable Card are IMMEDIATELY available for spending. And, since you're not carrying cash, it is also safer.

  17. What if I want to get cash from the on-site Alter ATM and then use the remaining balance at local merchants — can I do that? Yes. You can use your Card however you want, whenever you want, as long as you have sufficient funds available on it.

  18. What's the difference between a single load and reloadable Alter cash Card? The single load Card will only have funds loaded onto it one time. Once those funds are used the Card should be thrown away. The reloadable Card can be loaded as many times as you sell scrap metal to Alter Metal Recycling, as long as you want to be paid onto your reloadable Card. A higher amount of funds is also allowed to be loaded onto a reloadable Card.

  19. When will my Card expire? The Card will expire 24 months after the issuance of the Card. For the specific date, please refer to the face of the Card. A replacement Card will be sent to you prior to the expiration of the Card.

  20. How do I obtain a Card? Each time you sell your scrap metal to your local Alter Metal Recycling facility, you'll be given the option of being paid by check, single load Card or reloadable Card. Single load Cards are issued to you at the time of transaction and are immediately available for spending. If you want to be paid on a reloadable Card, you must first request one online at https://cashcard.altermetalrecycling.com.

  21. Can I get a Card immediately on-site, or do I have to wait for my Card to be mailed? You must first order a reloadable Card online at https://cashcard.altermetalrecycling.com. You will then receive your new Card via mail in about 10 days.

  22. Is there a minimum or maximum balance? The minimum amount that can be loaded onto a Card is $1. The maximum allowable balance on the reloadable Card may not exceed $75,000. (Any transactions for additional value-loads that would result in a total available Card balance > $75,000 will be rejected).

  23. Are there any spending restrictions on the reloadable Card? The maximum amount that can be purchased at a single merchant in a single transaction is $5,000 (or the remaining balance on the Card, whichever is less). Other than the remaining balance on the Card and possible transaction fees, there is no limit on the number of purchase transactions, or the number of merchants from whom purchases can be made, in a single day or otherwise. Your Card is accepted anywhere Visa® debit cards are accepted.

  24. Will I receive monthly statements? All statement information is available online. To view your balance and transaction history at anytime, please go to www.rewardsdetail.com. This is a free service. Monthly statements will not be mailed to you.

  25. What information is required from me in order to obtain a Card? Name, address, phone number, tax ID number, and date of birth for individuals.

  26. What happens after I use all of the funds on the Card? Additional funds can be loaded to your Card the next time you sell scrap metal to Alter Metal Recycling. Do not destroy your reloadable Card once the funds have been used.

  27. Can Alter see how I'm spending the funds on my Card? Absolutely NOT! That would be illegal! Only the Cardholder has access to the transactions that are made on the Card.

  1. Is Alter's Card a credit card? No. The Card is a prepaid debit card.

  2. Will I receive a PIN number? Yes. A PIN number will be provided with the single load Card you receive at the time of transaction at your local Alter Metal Recycling location. For security purposes, it is recommended that you memorize your PIN. Do not keep your PIN with your Card.

  3. Can I change the PIN that is assigned to my Card? No.
